The Women's Sport & Fitness Foundation came together with the 70% proof team; Sporting Equals, English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and StreetGames to deliver the Fit 4 Women events.

Our aim for the day was to further explore how to attract and retain women including women that are particularly under represented in sport/physical activity and pass on the research gained to a vast delivery network throughout England.

The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) working alongside the other national equality partners- Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation, StreetGames and Sporting Equals- is proud to have led on the resource creation.

Sue Tibballs, Chief Executive of WSFF responds to careless remarks made by Paul Jewell at last night's fixture against Birmingham.

"We were of course disappointed to hear Paul Jewell’s careless remarks last night. 'Off the cuff' comments such as these reinforce the prejudices of a small minority within football at a time when the sport as a whole is trying to attract more women and girls into all aspects of the game, whether that’s as players, officials, coaches or journalists.

The best of British women’s sport was celebrated last night at The Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year Awards 2011. The ceremony, hosted by the BBC’s Gill Douglas, attended by a host of stars from the sporting world including Lord Coe, was held at the Sunday Times headquarters in Central London.

Like many of the UK’s finest female or Paralympic competitors, they have been overlooked for shortlisting at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. But, two potential stars of London 2012 are now competing for an even greater accolade – global bragging rights.

17 year old Zoe Smith became the first English woman to win a Commonwealth Games weightlifting medal in Delhi last year and is Team GB’s greatest hope in the sport next year.

More Leading Women in Athletics for London 2017

More women could be given a number of leadership positions in athletics should London be successful in their bid to host the 2017 World Athletics Championships. The London 2017 bid team have launched the Women in World Athletics programme, which aims to inspire the most promising young women from the athletics arena to progress in leadership roles.

Such positions include technical officials who play a vital role in developing athletics communities around the world.

Hope hails ‘humbling’ work of football charity

England women’s coach Hope Powell has hailed the “humbling” work of a UK charity which uses football to empower women in southern Africa.

Powell was speaking at the launch of Coaching for Hope’s ‘Grassroots Girls - African Women into Football’ project at Wembley Stadium.

Coaching for Hope uses football as a vehicle to deliver education programmes to young people in some of the most challenging environments around the world.

“As little as two per cent of all sports media coverage is devoted to female competitors and women’s sport in the UK”, according to Sue Tibballs, CEO of the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation. “This lack of profile leaves women’s sport short-changed and presents a clear lack of healthy and active role models for women and girls.
