For many sports, retaining women and girls in sport provides a different and unique challenge. Many girls who have previously enjoyed sport and played it in clubs or in school teams leave during their mid teens.
WSFF commissioned the Futures Company to carry out a definitive piece of research with 16 – 19 year old girls to identify key reasons for their dropping out of sport, and identify further interventions to shape a new future.
The research encompassed focus groups, diaries and depth interviews with both lapsed and current participants in 8 sports: tennis, football, rugby union, rugby league, badminton, hockey, netball and basketball.
