Dame Kelly Holmes DBE

 

Dame Kelly is best known for winning double gold at the 2004 Athens’ Olympics in the 800 and 1500 metres. She had reached her athletic goals after starting in the sport at the age of 12 when she joined Tonbridge Athletics Club.

 

Dame Kelly won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2004, and in 2005 was honoured with a Damehood by the Queen in the New Year's Honours List. She also won the highly coveted Laureus World Sports Woman of the Year Award in the same year.

 

Since retiring from the track Dame Kelly has been made the National School Sports Champion and leads the GirlsActive programme with the Youth Sport Trust. She has recently established the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust.
