EMBRACE LIFE - VOLUNTEER IN SPORT AND CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES IN SUFFOLK

Do you have volunteering opportunities within your organisation that remain unfulfilled?

If so then you could benefit from the 'Embrace Life' campaign: a partnership between Suffolk County Council Culture Sport and Communities, Suffolk Volunteering Federation and Suffolk Sport. 'Embrace Life' incorporates the use of Volunteer Centres, the Volunteer in Suffolk helpline - 08452 235 335 - and the volunteering website www.Do-It.org

This is the ideal opportunity to register your organisations volunteering opportunities and to be part of 'Embrace Life' in Suffolk.

Cycle events in the East during the summer!A bicycle

There are lots of cycling events comming up in the East region over the summer. There are events to suit all ages and abilities, including free training sessions!

  1. Women on Wheels FREE Cycle Training sessions - Monday 4th June to Friday 8th June, lunchtime and evening sessions to suit plus Free Bike Ride on Sunday 10th June 10am til 12noon from Wardown Park Museum.
  2. Big Pedal Push sponsored Bike Ride Sunday - 8th July 2007, 10 - 2pm - register to join in now!
  3. Bike Mech course - learn to fix your bike - Tuesday 10th July 2007, 9 - 5.30pm - anyone got an unwanted BMX with giro brakes?

1) Women on Wheels FREE Cycle Training sessions -
Monday 4th June to Friday 8th June, lunchtime (12 til 2pm) and evening (5.30 til 7.30pm) sessions to suit - all taking place near the Town Hall. We can train you if you have never ridden a bike, ridden for ages and want to upgrade your skills for today's traffic or anywhere in between.

We currently have a few spaces left on all sessions - so book one and then book more if you want to, subject to availability. Just email us your preferred date and your name and contact details and we will email back to confirm your place. If you would like to borrow a bike for your own convenience, send us your approximate height too. - safercycling@luton.gov.uk

Five Miles to Fabulous - Free Bike Ride for Women with an off-road route and easy pace. Join us to celebrate your new skills or just to enjoy the ride! Email to book a place. Get your bike checked for free and enjoy the leafier lanes of Luton on Sunday 10th June 2007, 10am til 12noon, at Wardown Park museum entrance.

2) With the Tour de France already in the news, make sure you take your chance to take part in the Tour de Luton......!

The Big Pedal Push annual sponsored Cycle Ride is taking place on Sunday 8th July from 10 til 2pm (last registration at 12noon) - you can choose a route length to suit you and your family of 7 or 14 miles all on the off road NCN 6 route. Check the website www.pasque.org/events or email events@pasque.org stating "big pedal push" for more details and to get a pack to register for the event...... FREE event - suggested sponsorship £25 - all in aid of Pasque and Keech Hospices and your health!

3) Bike Mech course - 9 - 5.30pm on Tuesday 10th July. Cost £30 for Luton based citizens. Book your place now!

We are looking for a BMX bike with a Giro brake system (ones that allow the handlebars to turn through 360 degrees), to use in our Bike Mech course. If you have a bike in the shed that is not being used, please let us know.

4) There is an inspirational 8-minute video on youtube about "bike boulevards" in Berkeley , CA : www.youtube. com/watch? v=vX8wkI7CwpU Have a look, to see how extensive traffic calming can provide a network of bike priority routes where cars can go, but slowly... could it work here?

5) CYCLE CELEBRATION 2007 Date: Saturday 16 June, Time: 10 am to 4 pm, Venue: The Civic Theatre, Horne Lane , Bedford
Cycle stands are opposite, outside the Harpur Centre.
To start you off on National Bike Week, come and visit our stand at this interesting exhibition. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the value of cycling in providing pollution free economical transport, combined with healthy exercise, for all age groups to encourage more people onto cycles.

6) Little Gidding Cycle of Prayer Monday 23rd to Saturday 28th July 2007
This is an original event and a chance to explore the countryside by bike around LITTLE GIDDING along themes which connect to the spiritual tradition and community made famous by T S Eliot in his poetry.
