Elizabeth Mehdevy

Elizabeth specialises in commercial and contentious aspects of sport and has experience in advising clients from the motor racing, football, rugby and cricket sectors.

In relation to football, Elizabeth has acted for football clubs from the Premiership to the Conference on a variety of issues, both before the High Court and the disciplinary panels of the Football Association and the Football League, in particular; commercial disputes regarding sponsorship deals, termination of managers contracts, illegal approaches to managers, disputes between clubs and players regarding contract provisions and appeals to the Court of Arbitration of Sport regarding the interpretation of FIFA regulations.

In rugby, Elizabeth has acted for a number of professional rugby clubs on issues ranging from promotion and relegation criteria to commercial disputes involving sponsorship and the manufacture of playing-kit, to insurance coverage for on-the-field injuries.

In relation to motor sport, cricket and horse racing, Elizabeth, amongst other things, is familiar with advising on issues relating to the Concorde Agreement, obtaining injunctions to prevent disruption to major events and advising players' representative bodies on players' commercial rights.

Elizabeth's practice ranges from advising on legal restrictions on sports marketing, advising sporting organisations on the implications of regulation in the field, such as surrounding the 2012 Olympics, as well as advising advertising agencies on UK and Pan-European sales promotions and UK-based advertising for print and broadcast.
